ADDRESSING HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND WOMEN ABUSE
For many years, our community-taller has been engaged in the accompaniment of women at Kahupayan, which mainly offers counseling to women. In the course of time, Talitha Kum emerged as its the umbrella, in which we also collaborate in the Anti-trafficking Awareness conducted in parishes and schools in Cebu.
On May 2-3, 2026, a Trainers’ Training for Youth Leaders was organized and was held at St. Francis Seraph Convent Retreat House in Maghaway, Talisay.City, Cebu. This was participated by 25 youth leaders from different centers, parishes and other youth groups. This was conducted and facilitated by the Talitha Kum Cebu Core Group with the Talitha Kum Philippines (TKP) National Coordinator, Sr. Beth Pedernal, and her staff.
Different topics such as Spirituality of Talitha Kum, Human Trafficking, pertinent Church documents and Philippine Laws, Networking and Youth-led Advocacies and Campaigns were presented to which the youth participants actively listened and interacted with interest. What gave more life and fun were the socialization, animation and energizers among all present.
Towards the end, three Committees or Hubs were created; namely, Partnerships, Communication and Prevention and a Talitha Kum Cebu Youth Core Group was formed. Each is committed to make a plan for their parish, school or parish to which they represent.
We celebrated the Eucharist and in it, Certificates of Attendance and Recognition were given to each participant, the Commitment Statement was read and the Youth Core Group members were announced.
The positive impact this is creating on the youth participants is giving a lot of hope to help address this worrying situation affecting women and the youth.
These awareness and training sessions are spaces for us to establish rapport with them, and further accompaniment through online communication.
Lucha contra la trata de personas y el maltrato a las mujeres
Durante muchos años, nuestra comunidad-taller se ha dedicado al acompañamiento de mujeres en Kahupayan, donde principalmente se ofrece asesoramiento. Con el tiempo, Talitha Kum se consolidó como su organización matriz, con la que también colaboramos en campañas de sensibilización contra la trata de personas en parroquias y escuelas de Cebú.
Los días 2 y 3 de mayo de 2026, se organizó una capacitación para formadores de líderes juveniles en la Casa de Retiro del Convento de San Francisco Serafín en Maghaway, Talisay, Cebú. Participaron 25 líderes juveniles de diferentes centros, parroquias y otros grupos juveniles. La capacitación fue dirigida y facilitada por el Grupo Central de Talitha Kum Cebú, junto con la Coordinadora Nacional de Talitha Kum Filipinas (TKP), la Hna. Beth Pedernal, y su equipo.
Se presentaron diversos temas como la espiritualidad de Talitha Kum, la trata de personas, documentos eclesiásticos pertinentes y leyes filipinas, la creación de redes y las campañas y activismo liderados por jóvenes, a los que los jóvenes participantes escucharon e interactuaron activamente con interés. Lo que aportó más dinamismo y diversión fueron la socialización, la animación y las actividades energizantes entre todos los presentes.
Hacia el final, se crearon tres comités o grupos de trabajo: Alianzas, Comunicación y Prevención, y se formó un Grupo Central Juvenil de Talitha Kum Cebú. Cada uno se comprometió a elaborar un plan para su parroquia, escuela o comunidad a la que representa.
Celebramos la Eucaristía y, en ella, se entregaron certificados de asistencia y reconocimiento a cada participante, se leyó la declaración de compromiso y se anunció a los miembros del Grupo Central Juvenil.
El impacto positivo que esto está generando en los jóvenes participantes infunde mucha esperanza para abordar esta preocupante situación que afecta a mujeres y jóvenes.
Estas sesiones de sensibilización y capacitación nos permiten establecer una buena relación con ellas y brindarles apoyo adicional a través de la comunicación en línea.
